Interlibrary Loan

PrairieCat doesn’t have what you want? Try interlibrary loan (ILL) – perfect when your book is not owned by a PrairieCat Library. ILL is available for Peru patrons with a valid Peru Library card.

You may ask library staff to make your ILL request or you may make it yourself in WorldCat. From home, Peru Library cardholders must use an OCLC username and password to access WorldCat. Just contact any library staff to request the WorldCat (OCLC) authorization (username) and password.

When you find the item you want in WorldCat, click on the ILL button.

Once at the interlibrary loan screen, you must enter your First Name, Last Name, Postal Code, Telephone Number and add a Comment into the form. Once all the information is entered, click the Submit button to activate your request.

A note on the Comment box: We fill most ILL requests from Illinois libraries, using the RAILS delivery system at no charge to patrons. However, in the event that we must request an item from out of state, we charge a cost recovery postage fee of $4.00. Please indicate (yes or no) in the WorldCat ILL comments box if you are willing to pay this fee. Again, we try to only use ‘free’ Illinois libraries to fill patrons’ ILL requests. If nothing is added to the Comments section we assume you only want the item from an Illinois library. This means if an Illinois library does not lend the item the request will be canceled.

Items borrowed through WorldCat take 3 to 6 weeks to arrive at the Peru Library. If the item cannot be borrowed, we will let you know.

If you are not a Peru Library cardholder, you may request your ILL items through your home library.
