Preserving our Heritage

Join local author Lois DeGroot Beattie-Blackwell as she shares her book "Preserving our Heritage". The book was originally intended to preserve stories for her children, but she later decided to publish it. During the event, she will share stories about the experiences of the DeGroot family throughout the years. Her father was a bridge tender for the old swing bridge in Peru. She will recount stories about the family fish market, interactions with gangsters from Chicago, the process of making wine and moonshine, and running the popular DelRio and DeGroot Pace taverns – all located on Water Street in Peru. This will be a fascinating journey back in time that you won't want to miss.

Brick Builder's Club

Come for an evening of brick building with Lego's® on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.
There is no fee to be in this club.Builders 5-12 years enjoy themed building challenges each session or can build their own designs. Kids build from 6-6:45 pm and each builder can present his/her design to the club members beginning at 6:45 pm.
Lego® bricks are provided. Please do not bring Lego® bricks or figures from home. Lego designs remain on display for at least 1 week. Call 815-223-0229 ext. 214 to make an initial registration. Walk-ins welcome.

Wellness Wednesday-Packing Power Meals: Creating Wholesome Lunches

What's for lunch? Before you go through the drive-thru or order lunch delivery, join Susan Glassman, Extension Educator from the Nutrition and Wellness Program at Illinois Extension. Susan will share how to plan, be innovative, pack a variety of food groups, and stay on budget to create delicious, wholesome lunches.
In class, spice up a yogurt parfait and try a sample. Take home recipes and resources from Illinois Extension for creating wholesome lunches.
