    The Peru Library TAG meets on the last Friday of the month at 3:30. Snacks are provided.

    Are you a caregiver for a family member who has Alzheimer’s disease or another, related dementia?
    Does that person live at home? Are you looking for ways to increase your knowledge and confidence in this caregiver role?

    Then the 4-week Savvy Caregiver class is for you. It is designed to equip family members and others for the caregiving role. Developed by the University of Minnesota, this series of classes will help you gain:

    • A better understanding of the disease

    • The skills to assess the abilities of the person with dementia
    • The confidence to set and alter caregiving goals
    • Strategies to manage the day-to-day care of the person with dementia, including personal care
    • The skills to take better care of yourself
    • Tips on how to build a positive partnership with healthcare professionals

    The Savvy Caregiver Classes are offered free of charge through an Alzheimer’s Disease Supportive Service Program (ADSSP) grant from the Administration for Community Living. 

    The classes are at the Peru Public Library on Thursday evenings (5-8pm) on May 17, 24, 31 and June 7. 


    Registration is required, please call Trinnette at 847-324-0360 to register. This series is limited to 12 participants

Bring a teen rated game, we’ll play it! Teen Game Night is held on the 1st Friday of every month, is open to ages 12-18, and is a free program.

    My First Picture Book For children 6 thru 8 years of age.    (Children must have  completed Kindergarten) 

    Mondays June 4, 11,18 ,25 and July 2, 9,16, 23

    Each week kids explore a picture book chosen by the librarians.  Based on the title, kids write and illustrate their own version of the story.  The last three meetings, kids will have fun writing a twisted up version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Each club member’s writings will be laminated and spiral bound and available for pickup after August 6th.

    Class Size limit: 12

    Where will stories take you? Travel to a new place each week and discover dinosaurs, the ocean. space and more in this free weekly class. Kids engage in fun learning activities based on the weekly destination. Story Explorers are best for kids 3-7 years of age.

    Class Size is limited to 14
    Participants must be 8 to 12 years of age and either be an independent reader or read the book with a helper prior to club meetings.

    We film & take photos and set up gaming & audio visual equipment at teen library events. We also assist with the library’s teen facebook page, help create flyers, and create skits for promotional library videos. Snacks are always provided.

    Three dynamic music acts will perform at the seventh annual Rock the Library. Kicking off the show will be Pete Hamilton with his blues, rock and folk style. At 8:00 pm, horror rock band Secrets of Skeletons will be ready to entertain with a stage performance that features rock, metal & punk. Taking the stage and jamming from 9-10 pm will be hard hitting metal core band Also Known As. Doors open at 6:30 for this free all age show.
