  • My First Book Club for Kids 6-8

    My First Picture Book For children 6 thru 8 years of age.    (Children must have  completed Kindergarten) 

    Mondays June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2, 9,16, 23

    Each week kids explore a picture book chosen by the librarians.  Based on the title, kids write and illustrate their own version of the story.  The last three meetings, kids will have fun writing a twisted up version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Each club member’s writings will be laminated and spiral bound and available for pickup after August 6th.

    Class Size limit: 12

  • Junior Book Club-Percy Jackson Lightening Thief Chapters 16-22

    The Percy Jackson Lightening Thief book club introduces readers to the first book in the Percy Jackson series.
    Kids will discuss the book and fun with book themed activities.

    June 18th Chapters 1-8 will be discussed
    July 2 Chapters 9-15 will be discussed
    July 16th Chapters 16- to the end of the book will be discussed
    Class Size is limited to 14
    Participants must be 8 to 12 years of age and either be an independent reader or read the book with a helper prior to club meetings.

  • Tech Savvy Teens

    We film & take photos and set up gaming & audio visual equipment at teen library events. We also assist with the library’s teen facebook page, help create flyers, and create skits for promotional library videos. Snacks are always provided.
    We meet twice a month on Mondays in the library meeting room from 3:30 – 4:45. New members are always welcome.

  • Alzheimer's Caring Friends Support Group

    The Illinois Valley Alzheimers group meets monthly at the Peru Library on the 3rd Monday. All are welcome to attend the group.

    Help your child gain confidence in reading by reading to Ruby, a certified therapy dog. Kids read to Ruby for 5-10 minutes. Non-readers may also participate by telling Ruby a story from pictures. Register by calling 815-223-0229 ext. 5. An adult must attend with the child.

  • Chapter Book Club-Mermaid Tales

    Kids choose a Mermaid Tales book to read and discuss. Participants complete a mermaid theme treasure box with library provided supplies and items from home

    Kids must be 8-10 years of age and completed 2nd grade.

    If cosplay and otaku are part of your vocabulary, then you will want to be at the Peru Library on Friday, July 20 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. for the 11th annual Animinicon. Animinicon is an anime/manga, Japanese culture, and cosplay appreciation event held once a year. The Peru Library anime manga club have planned a lineup of activities including a cosplay contest, Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon tournament, anime screenings, video games, Dance Dance Revolution, art displays, trivia games, prizes, and more!     Staffed by the LaSalle County Deputy Registrars (Illinois Valley March to the Polls), voter registration is available at the Peru Public Library on August 7th from 2-4pm, and again on September 4th from 10am-12pm and 5:30-7:30pm

    To register you must be 1) a U.S. citizen, 2) at least 18 years of age by Election day and 3) reside of your voting precinct at least 30 days prior to Election day

    Bring two (2) forms of identification with at least one showing your current residence address.

    Providing care for someone with memory loss can be a labor of love, but it can also be exhausting and stressful. This program will introduce participants to the causes, signs and symptoms of stress, and will provide participants with stress-reduction strategies

    Caregiver Stress is presented by the Alzheimer's Association, Illinois Chapter. This program is 1.5 hours, which includes time for questions and answers. Registration is required.Call 815-223-0229, email perulibrary@perulibrary or stop by the library to register.
